Johnson to return relay gold
Its unfortunate that his named had to be tagged to a story like this. I just hope that it never comes out that he is guilty as well. Seems like the majority of the U.S. runners were cheating. Track used to be such a proud event. Now, its hard to admire the winners until proof comes out that they are indeed clean. We need more athletes like MJ; not just in track, but in other sports as well.

Not surprising, but it is always tougher when expectations are upon you. What I was surprised to see, is that Miami didn't even make the Top 25. King James rules in Washington
Game Recap
"In an NBA playoff series filled with trash talk, hard fouls, 13 technicals, one ejection, one suspension and plenty more, James was everywhere and did a little bit of everything in Game 6...."

This series was really a testament to how amazing LeBron is as a team leader. The Wizards employed a very weak strategy to defeat the Cavs, and it didn't work. The Wizards played a very low-class style of ball, using cheap shots and media jabs to disrupt the Cavs. Rather than playing standing up, they chose sucker punches. James really stood up for his team and didn't call out Washington for its style. He just stood up after each hit and said that if that is how they wanted to play, he'll show them how to win. It is deserving that the Cavs defeated them in Washington, in a hostile environment, amid the crowd's useless chants of "Ov-er-rate-d." I don't think you can call player overrated when he lights you up for 150 points. Pick on another player, and deal with the fact that James beat you without a supporting cast and a hand tied behind his back.

Well deserved
Brett Favre will get the cover of Madden NFL 09. I believe this is a well deserved honor. Few quarterbacks have meant so much to the "everyman" as Favre has. It is also great that he gets the cover to the 20th anniversary of the game. I feel it turned out to be a pretty perfect match.

With all the blockbuster trades that have gone down recently, shouldn't Cleveland's front office step up and try to secure a second major player? Why didn't they fight for Jason Kidd, or even Shaq? Surely, LeBron wouldn't mind having another dominating player on the team. The Cavs went to the Finals. All they need to do is shore up the missing places on the roster and they could be just like the Celtics this year.

Why nation's No. 1 recruit Terrelle Pryor should pick Ohio State over Michigan

If Terrelle Pryor, perhaps the No. 1 football recruit in the country, wants to start as a freshman, he should go to Michigan. There’s no doubt about that.
He’s a quarterback in the mold of Vince Young, tall and mobile. Given the depleted state of the Wolverines’ depth chart, the Jeannette, Pa., product would be the first-stringer the moment he signed on the dotted line.
But if his ultimate designs are on the NFL – and whose aren’t at that age? – he should go to Ohio State. There, he won’t be thrown to the wolves before he’s ready.
There, he’ll have to earn his position. And there, he’ll better learn how to be an NFL signal caller.
Rich Rodriguez’s zone-read offense is tailor-made for Pryor. But what will that do for him at the next level? West Virginia quarterback Pat White – Rodriguez’s former pupil -- is a terrific college player, but his best bet for an NFL future is as a cornerback or kick returner. Granted, Pryor has better physical tools than White. But NFL teams will be skeptical of a QB coming out of a zone-read offense, no matter how talented he is.
Ohio State certainly would add some zone-read facets to its offense to best utilize Pryor, but the Buckeyes likely would fold those into a more well-rounded scheme – incorporating the traditional play-action and downfield passing attacks -- similar to what Texas did when it had Young. It’s critical that NFL evaluators see some drop-back passing on film. How often does White drop back at West Virginia?

The other advantage for a quarterback avoiding a straight-up zone-read offense is longevity. Every time Pryor runs the ball, he risks blowing out his knee. He would, of course, also run at OSU, but not as much as at U-M. You can get hurt in the pocket, too, but it’s much safer in there than out on the edge, trying to juke safeties and linebackers diving at your legs every play.
The final point in the Buckeyes’ favor is the trusted theory that quarterbacks, like offensive linemen, are best served by easing into the lineup. How did Jimmy Clausen look at Notre Dame this year? And Ryan Mallett at U-M? They were the consensus top two freshman QBs in the country, and Pryor could face a similar situation if he starts from day one at U-M next season. If he were to attend OSU, he’d probably back up incumbent Todd Boeckman next fall, playing a series here and there and causing havoc in the red zone. Then, after Boeckman graduates, the offense is all his in 2009. Sound like Tim Tebow’s career to anyone?
We won’t even get into the fact that Pryor is tight with most of OSU’s verbal commitments – they stuck a Buckeye sticker on his helmet at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl last weekend, and he didn’t take it off.
This will be mostly a business decision for Pryor. If he wants to start right away, it’s Ann Arbor. But if he wants to groom himself for an NFL future – and know what it’s like to win the last game of the regular season – it’s Columbus.
Why Pryor Should Choose Michigan over OSU
As my distinguished colleague has posted why Pryor should go to OSU, let me tell you why he will do better at Michigan, in no particular order.
1 - mobile QBs are Rich Rodriguez' specialty. they are not Tressel's. Look at the evolution of Pat White, and the success (especially in the NFL) of Shaun King. Tressel didn't even recruit Troy Smith as a QB, he took him as an "athlete," which, in my opinion, is that he just took him to placate Ted Ginn Jr. What is Troy Smith doing in the NFL? nothing. Tressel essentially tried to mold him into a pocket passer and look what happened in his last college game (the only hard game that the Buckeyes had that year).
2 - we've seen Tressel at his best, and its not NEARLY good enough. We haven't begun to see Rodriguez at his best, but its on the way. Tressel won his only d1 national title with a team that wasn't his, a team full of John Cooper's players. Since then, he has won a total of ZERO national titles, losing badly in both national title games. He has also presided over numerous NCAA violations, recruited some sketch players and coached an undisciplined team (in fact, the Buckeyes players were fighting THEMSELVES during halftime of the most recent national title meltdown). Even with Troy Smith, his superstar, Tressel made him split time with another pocket passer. He is still too old school at heart. Now Rich Rod, he is total new school. Besides coaching an undefeated Tulane team, he has brought WVU from the cellar to the penthouse; make no mistake, it was Rich Rods team out there thumping a dangerous Oklahoma. You put an offensive mind like he has in a college with history and recruiting power and you have something VERY special coming your way. Pryor will not only be under the tutelage of a spread coach, but he will also be surrounded by massive talent, with more beating down the doors to come.
3 - The OSU downswing vs. the Michigan upswing. Make no mistake about it, the two debacles that were OSUs showings in the national title games will hurt recruiting. Tressel's coaching "genius" has been shown false, and recruits do not want to play in an environment such as that. Rich Rod is new, exciting, stat-happy. He will send out former player Steve Slaton to the NFL in the first round, and that, coupled with his success and talent, will bring even better players to Michigan then expected. Pretty good placements I think because I agree with Georgia, Florida, OSU, and LSU. But when are people going to learn to stop placing a bad Texas team in the Top 10? They are always overrated and given way too many chances. If you read his description of USC, he tells how many key players are being lost so how can you be Top 5 then? Plus I still believe that USC isn't that good. Especially after going to the Rose Bowl. If they had played Missouri they would have looked a whole lot worse. USC has a mediocre running game and a shaky pass game. If they don't get lucky on a screen they don't have a big play. They are definitely not like the teams from before. Missouri and Arizona State had fluke seasons and won't repeat with the success of this past year. West Virginia got number 14. How come they didn't make the top 7? Especially if Schlabach thinks that White and Slaton will return. They really deserve to be higher. I still believe that Florida is a team that can run the table if they choose to play so. If they can utilize some other offensive weapons and shore up the defense, they have a great chance. All they did last year was use Tebow and Harvin and they still almost made it.
Of course, these rankings will definitely change because it all depends on who chooses to leave for the draft and what recruits a team will get. Michigan has a chance to be placed higher than 21 if they can lock down a star QB like Terrelle Pryor (dammit). Ryan Mallett's decision to transfer will be a huge loss because he's actually got a lot of talent. Michigan just had a terrible year, but the bowl game showed that they can play with the best. I think Pryor has secretly committed to UMich, and that is the real reason Mallett is leaving. Why else would someone leave Michigan? He doesn't want to have to battle for a position. However, sitting out for a whole year could hurt his progress, even though he still has 3 years of eligibility after that. Michigan does have a lot of really good players leaving and a new head coach implementing a new offense. Maybe the ranking is actually accurate?

Mike Vick the Martyr
Fans across America, and only America, were outraged of the brutal and cruel treatment by Atlanta Falcans star QB Michael Vick in conjunction with his Bad News Kennels towards defenseless dogs. In recent events the QB was sentenced to a little over two years in prison for his role in organizing, rackateering, torturing, and killing these animals. In the event preeceding his trial we saw a huge outcry by animal rights groups particularly, rallying to make sure the "murderer" be put to justice. He made "national" headlines on a daily basis, and talk shows such as Ellen and Opera killed him on a daily basis as they took advantage to spew their Vick hate to those television viewers who were female and over fourty, sitting, outraged that a black man had done such a sinful act to dogs, not humans, but dogs.
I would like to regress at this point and say that Allen Iverson (Vick's homeboy from Newport News, VA) said it best in one of his most famous quotes. "PRACTICE? what we talking about, PRACTICE? Cause we're not talking about the game, we're talking about PRACTICE!?! mannn"
If Mr. Iverson knew he would'nt be scrutized to retirement im sure he would have a similar sentiment of the Vick situation, lets just switch dogs with PRACTICE, and humans with the game. Now I know everyone will kill me for being insensitive, and have heard this part of the argument millions of times, but thats not where I'm going with this so just hold it. This problem is deeper than using Vick as an example for hoping to stop dog fighting nation-wide. Yet thats where it stops, NATION-WIDE. America was built on a constitution for and adopted by anglo-saxon males from the late 18th century. We live in an America today where although these individuals still hold the majority the national identity is ever changing with new culture and attitudes immigrating from abroad. To make my point simple, NO WHERE BUT IN AMERICA WOULD A MAN BE IN DANGER TO GO TO JAIL FOR KILLING A DOG, and I for sure know that Mike Vick did NOT think he was breaking some law when he ran his bad news kettle. Shit.. you are not even allowed to beat your own kids in America anymore... this is WRONG, not becuase I think you should be able to abuse anyone, yet it other cultures it is only appropriate to beat your children. I think everyone heard the story of the Domincan man who was threatened by the police in New York for beating his child, promptly caught a flight to the DR and started flogging his child. When approached by a DR cop the officer kindly asked, "Want me to hold him for you." Thats just the way it is people, and America needs to be accepting of everyone else's culture and needs to ammend its values and cultures accordingly.

White America needs to stop being so ignorant and sensitive about LIFE, thats why their children are ending up nowhere, while the minorities of the country are getting ahead.
Bottom line is that America needs to accept that different cultures raise their kids and dogs differently. If a dog attacked a human and mamed him, im sure PETA would throw its best attys infront of council to make sure the animal was not killed. As an atty in future practice, you know what I would say... "Shoot the dog in the mouth, and see if it lives or dies." Wow that was harsh, but I need to get a point across people. Becuase we talking about DOGS, not humans, DOGS.
My only hope is that this country starts to progress and understand where diverse people from differing backgrounds come from. Calling myself a proud American , I was ashamed of this nation and its sensitivities to an animal that man had taken in and domesticated because of the animals sheer stupidity to grovel for food and attention. Doesnt seem like progression of our race to me. If an alien were to fly and take a look at our country and see us picking up a dogs shit they would fly away because they would think we are crazy and too easy to please. But only if they flew past America, everywhere else they would see a foot in a dogs mouth..human domination baby.. survival of the fittest. White America needs to stop being so ignorant and sensitive about LIFE, thats why their children are ending up nowhere, while the minorities of the country are getting ahead.
Bottom line is that America needs to accept that different cultures raise their kids and dogs differently. If a dog attacked a human and mamed him, im sure PETA would throw its best attys infront of council to make sure the animal was not killed. As an atty in future practice, you know what I would say... "Shoot the dog in the mouth, and see if it lives or dies." Wow that was harsh, but I need to get a point across people. Becuase we talking about DOGS, not humans, DOGS.
My only hope is that this country starts to progress and understand where diverse people from differing backgrounds come from. Calling myself a proud American , I was ashamed of this nation and its sensitivities to an animal that man had taken in and domesticated because of the animals sheer stupidity to grovel for food and attention. Doesnt seem like progression of our race to me. If an alien were to fly and take a look at our country and see us picking up a dogs shit they would fly away because they would think we are crazy and too easy to please. But only if they flew past America, everywhere else they would see a foot in a dogs mouth..human domination baby.. survival of the fittest. Thats just the way it is, god bless you Mike Vick, you are a martyr to the truth that one day will be in this counties mouth.

F.S.WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO?
Florida State will be without over 30 of its players for its upcoming bowl game, the Dec. 31st Music City Bowl against Kentucky.
Not only is it pathetic that FSU is even playing in the Music City Bowl, but to lost THIRTY-PLUS players, INCLUDING possible starting QB Xavier Lee? RIDICULOUS.
The NCAA should immediately pursue harsh sanctions against the players and the school for making an utter mockery of the college system. Isn't it supposed to be Student-Athlete, not Athlete-Student?
This FSU debacle is only the tip of the iceberg. I believe that the NCAA needs to do a complete rehaul of the way that student athletes are treated, ESPECIALLY basketball and football players. Too many times you hear of the athlete who SOMEHOW gets to take a makeup oral final (even though they walked out of the written final), or SOMEHOW is acing all their classes without showing up...its just plain old pathetic. The NCAA and all the colleges are simply using these athletes for money, not caring about them or their future. The problem is, damn near all of these athletes won't have a future past college. Such a small percentage of college athletes go pro in their sport (less than 1%), and even those that do face a VERY short career (the average NFL career? a little over two years, and there is no way that takes into account EVERY player that starts on a team in the preseason). What happens to these athletes? Does anyone care? the answer is a resounding NO. Not the college that pushed them through, not the pro team that cut them, no one.

Terrelle Pryor completed nine of 13 pass attempts for 142 yards and one touchdown, carried 16 times for 158 yards and another score, returned two kickoffs for 65 yards, returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown, and registered a sack in Jeannette's 41-21 win over Wilmington, Pa. and ESPN 150 Pitt running back pledge Chris Burns, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
